As a mom of two grown sons, one of whom is dyslexic, I have been on a similar journey. Unable to find an Orton-Gillingham tutor near where we lived, I researched more about dyslexia and the Orton-Gillingham method. In 2009, I became a Certified Barton Tutor (based on the Orton-Gillingham method) and earned a Certificate of Completion in Screening for Dyslexia in 2012.

In 2021 I became an Equipping Minds Certified Instructor. This Cognitive Development System is designed to improve a learner’s working memory, processing speed, and cognitive function which in turn influences visual and auditory processing, attention, logic, comprehension, language, social skills, executive functioning, behavior, and self-regulation. The research shows that when implemented properly, students with a SLD (specific learning disability) improve their capacity to learn, raising their test scores.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Music from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. I continue to sing, am an avid reader and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
"By the time my son 'E' completed Barton, he was helping me and correcting my spelling. As a family we took an on-line test to see if we were dyslexic. Out of my three children, two of them plus myself had many dyslexic qualities. My oldest son, now 37, revealed how hard school was for him; note taking, listening, spelling, reading. He wishes his dyslexia was realized sooner." G.O.
"Since Marta began tutoring my daughter almost two years ago, I have watched her make tremendous strides in both reading and spelling. Marta is both professional and personable. Our family has benefited greatly from True Potential Tutoring." S.S.

"Marta has been incredibly helpful to me as a parent of dyslexic children. She has taught me how to advocate for them and how to see the strengths of the dyslexic mind. I know the trajectory of my children's lives has been changed because of Marta's investment in them." S.W.
